Choose materials carefully
For our Phieres collections, we prefer to use recycled and organic materials . Every step, from raw materials to the finished product, is carefully considered to ensure no unnecessary resources are wasted. For us, true sustainability begins with the materials we choose and the values we represent.
Biopolymers
A first step in this direction is the use of biopolymers as an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional plastics. These innovative materials are based on castor oil , which is extracted from the seeds of the castor oil plant and serves as the basis for sebacic acid – an essential component of our renewable raw materials. By using plant-based raw materials that have already absorbed CO₂ from the atmosphere, the CO₂ footprint of this material is significantly better than that of conventional plastics.
Since 2021, we have been using biopolymers in the production of polyamide and now integrate 25% to 75% of this more environmentally friendly material into products such as Phieres sunglasses and snow goggles .
Recycled PET & ocean plastic
By using recycled polyester, ocean plastic, and discarded fishing nets , we aim to reduce negative environmental impacts and promote a sustainable economy . Plastic waste from various sources is recycled and transformed into new, environmentally friendly products. By reusing existing resources and using renewable materials, we make a positive contribution to our carbon footprint and promote environmentally conscious development .
To ensure transparency regarding the sustainability of our products, Phieres works with producers certified by the Global Recycled Standard (GRS). The DRAFT Transaction Certificate guarantees traceability of the origin and recycling process of the materials used. This allows us to ensure that the recycled materials meet the highest environmental and social standards.
organic cotton
To further contribute to sustainability, Phieres uses organic cotton for our textiles. Growing cotton without the use of harmful chemicals or pesticides not only protects the environment but also the health of farmers and workers in production. Growing organic cotton requires significantly less water and energy , which helps significantly reduce the ecological footprint of textile production. By using organic cotton, we aim to make a positive contribution to environmental protection in addition to the comfort it offers.
The Soil Association's study "Cool Cotton – Organic Cotton and Climate Change" shows that growing organic cotton uses 91% less water and 62% less energy than conventional cotton. It also claims to reduce its impact on global warming by 46% .
Glasses with Zeiss technology
Phiere's sunglasses and snow goggles with Zeiss technology score not only in terms of their features and optical properties, but also in their manufacturing and choice of materials. By using energy-efficient manufacturing techniques , recycled materials , and environmentally conscious production methods , Zeiss contributes to more responsible product use and disposal, as well as to reducing the carbon footprint of eyewear manufacturing. Zeiss lenses are also characterized by their high quality and durability , leading to a longer service life and thus a reduction in waste and resources.
Sustainable hangtags
At Phieres , we focus on ecologically sound manufacturing and the use of natural materials – for the well-being of people, animals, and our environment. To raise awareness of this sustainability in our clothing and accessories, we began labeling products containing organic cotton and recycled polyester with our own sustainable hangtags in 2021.
Reducing CO2 emissions through production in Europe
By manufacturing some Phieres products in Europe, we reduce transport distances , resulting in a lower carbon footprint . Our close collaboration with several European manufacturers allows us to optimize supply chains and ensure greater transparency regarding the materials used and manufacturing processes, which in turn has a positive impact on the environment .
